Ophrys apifera x insectifera
(hybrid between Bee and Fly Orchids)

Photographed by Graham Giles

(Sussex, 1999)

A single plant of this spectacular and exceedingly rare hybrid flowered for several successive years in Sussex. It is a fine example of how the floral characteristics (shapes, colours, patterns, textures, etc.) of hybrids are often mid-way between those of the two parents.
